The Image Gallery presented the artist Katerina Polyzoidis Mavroleon on her solo exhibition entitled A Voyage in Colour.
Katerina Polyzoidis Mavroleon has served for many years as a career diplomat both in Greece and abroad. Her love for art led her to go back in time and become a student again. She studied painting and photography at the Athens Vakalo School of Art and Design and London’s St Martin’s. She also took lessons on watercolour from the well known English painter James Foot.
‘The magic of colour together with the tenderness of watercolour fills the heart with joy and the mind with peace and serenity.
Imagination is my only freedom.
My heroes are the great artists of colour Matisse and Van Gogh.
I am not interested in copying reality with my painting whilst I much prefer to give the viewer the opportunity to be part of it through his own feeling.
Flowers growing free mainly anemone inspired me for this exhibition and the regattas of Matisse and Dufy gave stimulus to my imagination towards painting the Spetses regattas.
If some of my flowers or boats manage to raise a smile of joy then I will consider this exhibition has been worthy of taking place.’
